What's Going On?

The CRT bans occurring across the country are not rooted in a concern for students or their access to quality education. They are the result of people in power causing fear in order to push forward their political ideas that are racist and not about children. These CRT bans are about criminalizing anything that questions history, power, and race. This means that teaching the truth about history, which empowers students to understand the past and dream of a better future, is seen as a threat to people who seek to maintain control through the status quo.

What's The Real CRT?

Although we are experiencing a fake public outcry against Critical Race Theory in schools, we know this theory is not being taught or implemented in Pre-K through 12 classrooms. However, education scholars worked hard for decades to develop theories that are designed to help students of various backgrounds and abilities access quality education.

Instead of being caught up in the hype, we can learn and implement their ideas to help students succeed.

What's Happening In Your State?

The flurry of state and local laws claiming the need to remove teaching of Critical Race Theory [CRT] from public schools use an old political tactic: the straw man fallacy. Straw man fallacy is a deliberate attempt to misrepresent a position or an issue, then attacking the misrepresentation as if it were the original. In the case of anti-CRT bans, these bills and their sponsors pretend to be attacking the teaching of Critical Race Theory which they portray as divisive and unpatriotic. These are misrepresentations on several levels, starting with the fact CRT is only taught in graduate schools, usually law schools. But even more sinister is that these bills and policies use the misrepresentation of CRT that they have created to cover what they are really attacking: teaching the truth about the history and the effects of racism.
